Carpe diem- Seize The Day was the quote of the day for The Reserve at Spanos Park and that is exactly what fifty-one SAFGC members were able to accomplish on February 7th and 9th. With The Reserve in excellent condition and a staff that was cordial and professional, they made sure all the needs of our tournament were met. Kudos to their staff! There was great 70 degree weather on day two and better than expected weather for day one. How’s that for winter play in the Big Valley?
2012 brings a few new changes for our club. To start with we have a new calendar with courses that were at the top of our members’ survey. New on the list are: Rancho Murieta, Castle Oaks, Apple Mountain, Morgan Creek, and Ancil Hoffman. Your feedback is important as these courses nearly fill half our schedule and we may see many of these courses on our future calendars. We will also see some new formats that the board approved for both enjoyment and competition of the members. In April at Rancho Murieta we will see the first of our four-person scramble. Day one at Rancho Murieta will be a shotgun start at 9:00 and day two will be straight tee times starting at 11:00. Our second scramble will be in July at Apple Mountain. At Dark Horse in June we see a return to a popular format, the two man best ball. The last format change will be at the second round of the club championship, as members will be grouped with those that they are most aligned with in the competition according to their flights. Starting at Catta Verdera, this March, a rule change for those with an index below 10.0. The club members with an index below 10.0 will play the tees just back of the tees designated for the balance of the members. The board is still exploring other rule changes in regards to tees and indexes-please be patient.
Pay to Play: In the past members have been allowed to play with a promise to pay at the next tournament or by mailing in a check. This may have been convenient for the member but add to the confusion in record keeping, phone tag, and emails in collecting the fees due. Pre-payment is accepted by PayPal ten days prior to the tournament and checks by snail mail. On the day of the tournament only cash or checks will be accepted for tournament fees. Every golf course does not provide ATM service. If payment is due on the day of the tournament please bring a check, cash, or secure a loan from a friend. The golf club will no longer secure your entry fee on a promise.
March returns us to Catta Verdera which has been a great venue for our club. The tournament is straight tee times starting at 11:00. Range balls are included so plan to arrive early to take advantage of the range facility and their nice chipping and putting areas. Catta Verdera requires all members and guest to wear proper golf attire so as always let’s show the pride of our club in this gentlemen’s sport.

Thanks,
