Home of the SAFGCFun, fun, fun! No we weren’t surfing as implied by those boys with shaggy hair-dos, but there were a few waves of laughter and applause as the awards and raffle prizes were handed out. The luncheon was a success with thirty-nine members and guest attending. All attending were eligible for raffle prizes and received a nicely embroidered SAFGC golf towel as they entered. Good food and company were on the menu as attested by a unanimous verbal approval to continue with an Awards Luncheon next year. As I did at the luncheon again I want to thank all those in attendance and the Board for their hard work in making the luncheon a success. A big applause followed as our Vice President, Matt Reyman, acknowledged and thanked Bruce Hoffman for engendering our first Awards Luncheon! Okay for a mere $12.00, we now know the answer to the “Sixty-Four Thousand Dollar Question.” The Club Champions are Mark Wellendorf for Gross and Bruce Hoffman for Net. Congratulations to both for their success in competing among a large field of golfers and a very difficult second course at The Ridge. If you can’t recall the topography of The Ridge just refer to the last newsletter for a refresher, or try a casual walk through El Pico de Aneto in the Pyrenees. Both Mark and Bruce received a nice trophy that included a Maltese Cross with gold inlay. Congratulations to all receiving trophies for their excellence in the Club Championship competition. Also acknowledged for awards were Jeff Morgan for Most Frequent Player (with eleven tournaments) and David Simmons for Most Gross Strokes (with 1190). Jeff will likely be in the running next year as he received a gift certificate and David will most likely not as he received a gift certificate for golf lessons. The Award Ceremony was followed by the raffle. Golf bags, lob wedges, SAFGC shirts and hats, rescue clubs, and putters were won by the lucky recipients as their names were pulled and called from the borrowed salad bowl. For the grand prize all the names went back into the pot for a chance to win. With odds that were far better than winning the lotto Richard Vaughn was the luckiest, winning a $500 golf get-away! Congratulations Richard. One last thing to cover- our last tournament at Turkey Creek was our annual Turkey Shoot. The Net and Gross winner will receive gift certificates from a local grocer. Well just to make things clear we will do the same this month at Whitney Oaks. Make the birdies to get the birdie. Thanks, Jose
